Meet Shirley, an Event Coordinator in our Boston office! This month, Shirley shares her pick for the best tapas in Boston, the TV show that sparked her interest in hospitality, and the design element she would love to incorporate into an upcoming event.

Q: What made you want to get into this industry and how did you get here?
A: It might sound silly, but I was watching The Hills on MTV and there was a cast member on the show who got a job with a company that did events all around Los Angeles. It looked like such a fun job. In my second year of university, I researched event planning companies in Boston. I got my first internship shortly after and have been working in hospitality and events ever since.
Q: If you could switch jobs with anyone at Corinthian Events for a day, who would it be and why?
A: I would say our Graphic Designer Rick because it would be fun to design invitations, menus, and signage. I think learning what programs and applications he uses to create all his designs would be really interesting.
Q: What was your dream job growing up?
A: When I was little, maybe around four years old, my mom asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I told her I want to be a doctor because that’s all I really knew for jobs back then. I clearly did not end up in the medical field!
Q: What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given, event related or not?
A: Make every experience a lesson that you learn from to do better in the future.
Q: What is something you are looking forward to in the coming year?
A: Hopefully traveling more and spending more time with my mom. Oh and maybe get a little furry friend!
Q: What is an event theme or destination activity you’ve always wanted to execute for a client?
A: I think executing an event with a fashion show element could be fun. I would love to work with a local designer to incorporate fashion into an event.
Q: What is your favorite restaurant or activity in Boston?
A: I love any restaurant that has good tapas. Toro in the South End is my go-to. They also have a delicious paella that is so yummy!
Q: What’s something people might not know about you?
A: I’m obsessed with Scottish Folds.
